As promised, Huawei brings the new Face unlock feature to Honor 9i smartphones. The company has already initiated the roll out and available to download for Indian units (RNE-L22). Along with face unlock, it also adds new AR Lens feature in camera, enables VoLTE support for Idea and installs the February 1 2018 android security patch.

This firmware will replace the older build number (RNE-L22C675B151) with new one RNE-L22C675B160. However it didn’t make any changes in android and EMUI version, which remains at 7.0 and 5.1. This major update weighs in 491 MB (which is little bit large) and will be available via OTA. Huawei recommend the users to download this update using Wifi network and also keep the battery level above 50%.

If you had connected your device to WiFi means then you’ll receive the automatic OTA update prompt. Once download has completed you can update it immediately or later. Additionally you can choose overnight install option i.e. it will update your device between 2 AM to 5 AM.

Recently Huawei has confirmed that the Honor 9i is eligible to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update. Until now they didn’t reveal the exact release date about this oreo update. We can expect the next major update for this smartphone will be android 8.0 update with EMUI 8.0.
