Verizon Wireless announced that it will begin pushing the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to the Samsung Galaxy S III starting today. The update also activates the phone’s ability to run on international GSM networks, which means you now have a global ready smartphone.
The update, which adds Google Now, new notifications, from which users can return a missed call or email, Google Search, which is comparable to Apple’s Siri engine and Project Butter, will be delivered over the air in waves. Additionally, enhanced in-phone camera capabilities include new filters (warm or cold vintage, black and white, sepia, or color highlights) to fill users' simplified Instagram needs, as well as the ability to pause and resume video while recording.
The update will also make the Galaxy S III Verizon’s next ISIS-ready smartphone. ISIS is a joint venture between Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T that will eventually act as a mobile payment solution, but it’s currently only being tested in Austin and Salt Lake City.
The Jelly Bean software upgrade will start being pushed to phones via OTA (Over-The-Air). Customers will also be able to manually download the upgrade through the settings menu on their handset next week.
