Mobile phone displays need to be capable of displaying thousands of colours so that high-end features such as images and video playback offer the desired user experience. Display will play a central role of Mobile phones.
OLED : OLED stands Organic Light Emitting Diode. In OLED technology a layer of organic material is sandwiched between two conducting glasses top plate and bottom plate. Brightness and color can vary depending on the electric pulse applied between these two plates. It features exceptional color reproduction, blazing fast response times, wider viewing angles, higher brightness and extremely light weight designs, less power and also can be made very thin.
AMOLED : AMOLED stands Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode. AMOLED displays are a type of OLED displays for mobiles. AMOLED screens have all the attributes of an OLED display like brilliant color reproduction, light weight, better battery life, higher brightness and sharpness and light weight designs.
Super AMOLED : Super AMOLED displays are an even advanced version of AMOLED displays. Super AMOLED display is built with touch sensors on the display itself. Super AMOLED displays are also much more responsive than other AMOLED displays. It offers other advantages over earlier AMOLED screens, including increased brightness and lower power usage.
Retina Display : Retina Display cannot be individually identified by the human eye, thus making the display super sharp and brilliant. Retina display is about 300 PPI for a device held 10 to 12 inches from the eye. Moving the eye closer to the display reduces the Pixels per Degree, and moving away from it increases the Pixels per Degree in proportion to the distance.
Resistive touch screen : Resistive touch screens contain two layer of conductive material with a very small gap between them which acts as a resistance. When the resistive touch screen is touched with finger the two layers meet at the point of touch thus making a circuit at the point of touch. They are resistant to water, dust and not resistant to scratches. We can touch them with a finger, a stylus, etc. They have a lifespan of about 35 million touches.
Capacitive Touch screen : More expensive than resistive screens, these are resistant to water, dust and scratches, and have a longer lifespan. We can only activate them with your fingers. Capacitive touch screen technology consists of a layer of glass coated with a transparent conductor (like indium tin oxide). When touching the screen an interruption is created in the screens electrostatic field. Capacitive touch screens are much better and responsive to human touch when compared to resistive touch screens.
Transmissive Touch screen : The type of LCD screen displays, the pixels are illumined from behind with an LED backlight. These screens offer their best performance in indoor environments. They tend to wash out in bright sunlight. They offer high contrast and deep colors.
TFT : TFT stands for Thin Film Transistor technology. This is a variant of liquid crystal display. In this display each pixel is controlled by from one to four transistors. The TFT technology provides the best resolution of all the flat-panel techniques. TFT screens are called active-matrix LCDs.
