Earlier at Google I/O 2018 event, Google has presented the Android P version with its features, as well as released the beta version of this OS. However the tech giant didn’t convey the name of Android P 9.0 version at that time. Now the Google has officially revealed the name of Android P as Android Pie (9) and also released the stable build of Android P for Pixel series devices. The OTA files are now available for download from Android developer website. While the beta participants will receive this update as OTA or download the OTA image files from official site.
Followed by Pixel devices, the Essential brand has surprised their users by pushing the Android 9 Pie update for its Essential Phone (PH-1). It’s actually great and smartest release from the Essential brand.
What’s new in Android 9 Pie version – This latest os version brings new gesture navigation, adaptive brightness, open your favorite apps faster with slices, redesigned quick settings, new app dashboard and so on. Along with android version upgrade, it also installs the August month security patch on devices.
Below we have listed the highlights of Android 9 Pie in detail.
Battery Saver - Once the battery saver mode is switched on, it will turn off the power consuming apps like Always-On display and extends the battery life.
Adaptive Battery - By using machine learning it will track and save which apps are mostly used and not used in your device. It will stop the power for unused apps and assign it to frequently used apps.
Background Restrictions - The Android Pie will give suggestion about the power draining apps in Settings menu. You can restrict the set of apps that consumes more power.
Camera - The new Android 9 version enables multi-camera support i.e. they’ve added the bokeh mode, depth mode, Stereo vision and more on devices with dual front or dual rear cameras. Also enabled external USB/UVC support for selected devices.
Do Not Disturb Android Pie adds new visual interruption feature, If you‘ve enabled DND mode you can still receive the notification from starred contacts.
App Dashboard - On daily basis it will track and display how much time you spent on your phone, apps and number of notifications received.
Wind Down - It will let you to set the daily schedule to give the rest for phone. If you choose Grayscale it will fade the device screen to gray or if you go for Do Not Disturb it will mute the notifications and go for sleep.
App Timers - It will allow the users to set the daily time limit for set of apps or specific app. Once the limit exceeded it will be paused for the rest of the day.
Notification Enhancements - Added smart replies option to messaging apps, now you can respond it quickly without typing the content.
Android Backups - Android Pie makes Android Backup feature more secure and encrypted. On the client-side the user can set security like PIN, Pattern or Password to protect you data.
